Newcastle United v Everton: Premier League
73 min Barry’s up and looks like he’ll be OK; Moyes is booked for coming on to the field to protest the decision. I’d be keen to hear VAR’s working because I think it’s clear Schar took man before ball.
TL;DR
- Thierno Barry scored the only goal of the match in the 49th minute, giving Everton a 1-0 lead.
- Newcastle United's performance was described as 'tediously tepid' and lacking intensity.
- There was a VAR review concerning a challenge by Schar on Barry, but the goal was allowed to stand.
- Both teams had opportunities, but neither was clinical, with Newcastle failing to register a shot on target for a significant portion of the game.
- The game was played in heavy rain, which was hoped to improve the tempo.
