Motorcyclist dies after crash sends bike into sea off Great Orme

A motorcyclist died after leaving Marine Drive at Llandudno’s Great Orme and entering the sea. Police, coastguard and RNLI teams responded, while officers seek witnesses and dashcam footage.

A motorcyclist has died after a crash on Marine Drive at Llandudno’s Great Orme sent him into the sea, as police appeal for witnesses to help establish what happened.

The collision was reported at 10:31pm on Thursday, October 29, involving a black motorcycle about a mile from the Toll House in the direction of the Great Orme summit. One report foregrounded the scale of the response, describing police, HM Coastguard and the RNLI mobilising after the rider entered the water. Police said the casualty was recovered and flown by coastguard helicopter to Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor, but was later pronounced dead.

A second account similarly centred the location and outcome, reporting that the rider came off the road at the well-known headland and fell into the sea below. It stressed that the rescue operation could not save him, while repeating police confirmation that the rider’s next of kin had been informed and the coroner notified.

The reports therefore differ more in framing than substance: one presents the incident chiefly through the emergency-services operation, while the other highlights the coastal setting and fatal consequence. Both rely on the same police account and say the collision is being treated as a fatal road traffic incident.

Sergeant Alun Jones said officers’ “thoughts are with the man’s family and friends at this very difficult time” and asked anyone who saw the collision, or who travelled or walked along Marine Drive that evening, to contact police. Investigators are particularly seeking dashcam footage from people travelling between the Toll House and the Great Orme summit between 10pm and 10:30pm.
