The pest I’ll never forget: the maggots that rained down like hail
The record-breaking heat in London, in summer 2022, resulted in an appalling problem in my neighbourhood – which one man took on, armed only with a jet wash
TL;DR
- London experienced record-breaking heat in the summer of 2022.
- A neighbour's overflowing bin became infested with hundreds, possibly thousands, of maggots.
- The neighbour attempted to clean the bin using a jet wash.
- The jet wash blast spread the maggots widely across the neighbourhood, onto windows, walls, cars, gardens, hedges, and pavements.
- The event caused horror and disbelief among the residents.
