Daniil Medvedev taken aback after asking Djokovic 'what are you talking about?'
Daniil Medvedev had been sceptical about Novak Djokovic’s comments on the fast courts in Shanghai. That was until he got a massive surprise when he stepped out onto the main Stadium court for the very first time. The fast surface has been the talk of the tournament this year, with all courts at the Shanghai Masters faster than in 2025. But Medvedev didn’t believe it until he came out to face Stefanos Tsitsipas in the fourth round.
TL;DR
- Daniil Medvedev initially disbelieved Novak Djokovic's comments about the Shanghai courts being very fast.
- Medvedev's first matches were on the Grandstand court, which he found to be slower.
- Upon playing on the main Stadium court, Medvedev was surprised by its significantly faster pace.
- He adjusted his game to be more aggressive and defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-4, 7-5.
- Commentators noted a minimal difference in court pace index between Stadium (43) and Grandstand (42.7).
- Medvedev has had a strong run in China, with a 10-1 match record and a title in Hangzhou.
