Right-wing says Dubois-Wardley rematch is a high-stakes test of resolve
Daniel Dubois defends the WBO heavyweight title against Fabio Wardley at London’s O2 Arena, five months after their punishing first meeting. Dubois sees Wardley taking a dangerous gamble, while Wardley frames the return bout as a focused bid for revenge.
Daniel Dubois and Fabio Wardley return to London’s O2 Arena for a WBO heavyweight-title rematch shaped as much by their contrasting interpretations of the first fight as by the championship on the line.
Dubois enters as champion after stopping Wardley in the 11th round of their May contest, a fight in which he was also knocked down twice. The challenger exercised his rematch clause, turning a dramatic first meeting into a second major event only five months later. The main-event ring walks are expected at about 10.30pm BST, with the card broadcast exclusively on DAZN; viewers can buy the pay-per-view for £24.99 or access it through DAZN Ultimate.1
For Dubois, the rematch is less a fresh start than a warning about the risks Wardley is willing to take. He said Wardley “has no choice” but to accept a lucrative title opportunity, adding: “Fabio is gambling with his health, his life, like we all do. We are prize fighters. This is a sport, but it’s a blood sport.”2
Wardley’s view is markedly different. Rather than treating the defeat as a reason for caution, he has cast the bout as a direct route back to the top, predicting: “Revenge, Fabio Wardley, knockout win.” Before the weigh-in, he also described his approach in stripped-back terms: “It’s seek and destroy. All the talking, all the words, it’s all ticked off. It’s laser-focused mode.”2
Their shared emphasis on knockout power reflects the first fight’s volatility. Dubois regards that chaos as evidence of his durability and finishing ability; Wardley sees it as unfinished business. The undercard includes Louie O’Doherty defending the British and Commonwealth lightweight titles against Michael Gomez Jr, alongside heavyweight contests featuring Bakhodir Jalolov and Solomon Dacres.1
