Police urge public not to approach Anthony Lloyd after Lewisham escape
A search is under way for Anthony Lloyd after police said he left a Lewisham medical facility. Reports agree on the public-safety warning, while one adds details about his conviction and transfer to the unit.
Police are searching for Anthony Lloyd, 38, after he left a medical facility in Lewisham, south-east London. Officers say the priority is locating him safely while urging members of the public not to intervene.
Right-leaning coverage focuses on the immediacy of the manhunt. It reports that Lloyd forced his way out of the unit at about 4.10pm on 23 October and was seen heading towards Catford. He was described as white, about 5ft 8in, of medium build, with short dark hair, and wearing a grey-blue T-shirt, black tracksuit bottoms and white trainers.1
Detective Superintendent Melanie Pressley, who is leading the search, said police were carrying out “various significant enquiries to find Lloyd and return him to custody.”1 She added: “We are concerned he poses a risk both to himself and the public ... Do not approach him.”1
The left-leaning report carries the same warning and account of the escape, but provides further context on Lloyd’s custody. Citing the Press Association, it says he was convicted in 2025 of actual bodily harm linked to an incident in Nottinghamshire involving three emergency-services workers, received a 12-month custodial sentence and was transferred to the Lewisham facility in September.2
Both accounts say police believe Lloyd could be anywhere in London and note links to Surrey, Sussex, Thames Valley, Hampshire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Merseyside. Anyone who sees him or has information is asked to call 999 and quote reference CAD4739/23Oct.2
