Take That’s Mumbai debut puts Earthshot’s global ambitions on stage
Take That will make its first appearance in India at the Earthshot Prize awards in Mumbai, combining a high-profile music event with Prince William’s environmental initiative. Reports agree on the global reach of the ceremony, while differing in emphasis on its cultural spectacle and climate mission.
Take That’s first concert performance in India will take place on a stage designed to celebrate environmental innovation, as Prince William’s Earthshot Prize heads to Mumbai on November 17.
Accounts from both perspectives agree that Gary Barlow, Mark Owen and Howard Donald will be among the headline performers at the 2026 awards night. The right-wing coverage places particular emphasis on the scale and spectacle of the event: the group will appear alongside Indian composer Shashwat Sachdev and a roster including Rami Malek, Shreya Ghoshal and Simone Ashley. It also notes that the ceremony is expected to reach viewers worldwide through Prime Video.1
The group framed the appearance as more than a new tour stop. “India is somewhere we’ve always dreamed of bringing our music,” Take That said, adding that performing alongside people “creating a better future for our planet” was “really special.”2 Their performance comes shortly before the release of their 10th studio album, Dreamers.
Left-wing coverage likewise highlights the band’s Indian debut, but gives greater weight to Earthshot’s longer-term environmental programme. It describes the awards as part of an initiative intended to recognise and fund ideas tackling climate change and other environmental problems, with five winners each set to receive £1 million to expand their work.3
That emphasis is shared by Jason Knauf, Earthshot’s chief executive, who said Mumbai would tell “a story of the immense challenges facing our planet,” but also of the progress made possible by “scientists, innovators, activists and leaders.”1
Both accounts portray the Mumbai event as an effort to pair popular entertainment with climate advocacy. Where one stresses a major international show and its guest list, the other centres the awards’ funding and environmental goals. For Earthshot, the global stream provides the link between those aims: a celebrity-led ceremony intended to give its finalists and winners an audience well beyond the venue.
