Right-wing says Andy Burnham is set for Celebrity Gogglebox
Two right-wing reports agree that Andy Burnham and Steve Rotheram will join a Stand Up To Cancer edition of Celebrity Gogglebox, but differ in their descriptions of Burnham’s office and the setting.
Andy Burnham is due to appear with Liverpool City Region mayor Steve Rotheram on a celebrity edition of Gogglebox supporting Stand Up To Cancer, according to two right-wing reports. Both portray the booking as a high-profile charity television appearance, but they give conflicting accounts of Burnham’s position and where the segment was recorded.
One report says the pair will offer their reactions to the week’s television from a sofa, with the episode scheduled for Channel 4 at 9:05pm on Friday, 23 October. It identifies Rotheram as mayor of the Liverpool City Region and says the recording took place in Downing Street outside working hours. The report cites the programme’s social-media announcement: “Meet Andy and Steve. Two more friends joining Gogglebox.”1
A second report likewise says Burnham will sit alongside Rotheram for the Stand Up To Cancer special, alongside guests including Joe Lycett and the Sugababes. But it describes Burnham as the prime minister and a Makerfield MP, and says the appearance is part of a drive to reach “normal” people.2
The reports therefore align on the central event — Burnham and Rotheram joining a charity special — and on the planned broadcast time. Their disagreement lies in the political and logistical framing: the first stresses a Downing Street recording and the programme’s wider celebrity line-up, while the second casts the appearance as a political outreach effort. Neither report provides independent confirmation of the differing descriptions of Burnham’s office.
The special is also said to feature Jennifer Saunders and her daughter, while the first report notes that the Sugababes called Gogglebox “a favourite show of ours” and said its Stand Up To Cancer link made the appearance more meaningful.1
