Right-wing says Strictly’s live score blunder was swiftly corrected
Strictly Come Dancing corrected an on-screen graphic that added one point to Lacey Turner and Vito Coppola’s total. The amendment moved the pair to 28 points and fifth on the leaderboard.
A late scoring correction briefly disrupted Strictly Come Dancing after an on-screen graphic gave Lacey Turner and Vito Coppola one point more than the judges had awarded. The show apologised before confirming the corrected leaderboard.
The error emerged after Turner and Coppola’s Tango. Craig Revel Horwood and Motsi Mabuse each gave the pair seven, Anton Du Beke awarded eight and Shirley Ballas held up six. Yet the broadcast graphic recorded Ballas’s mark as seven, initially producing the wrong total.1
Viewers quickly noticed the discrepancy, with one calculating: “7+7+6+8 =28!!! Scored Lacey & Vito wrong there.”2 The reports agree that the issue concerned the graphic rather than Ballas’s actual score, and that it was addressed before the final standings were announced.
Host Emma Willis interrupted the closing sequence to clarify the result. “Before we go to the leaderboard, we need to apologise because there was a mistake with Lacey and Vito,” she said. “Shirley scored a six, but the graphic said seven.”1
Willis confirmed that the couple’s correct total was 28, placing them fifth. The correction left Tabby Stoecker and Karmalita at the top of the leaderboard on 37, while Delta Goodrem and Kai Widdrington were second on 34 and John Nellis and Katya Jones third with 32.2
The two accounts differ mainly in emphasis: one presents the interruption as an urgent end-of-show announcement, while the other foregrounds the audience reaction online. Both describe the same outcome — a prompt on-air correction to prevent the incorrect graphic becoming the official score.
