Right-wing says Crazy Bear’s sudden closure leaves guests and staff in limbo

Reports portray the closure as an immediate blow to customers and employees: one stresses the hotels’ distinctive image and apparent lack of demand, while another points to staff accounts that financial strain had surfaced shortly before the shutdown.

Crazy Bear’s Beaconsfield and Stadhampton hotels have ceased trading after the group entered administration, bringing an immediate halt to stays, events, spa appointments and restaurant reservations. The closure has left customers seeking refunds and staff confronting an abrupt loss of work.

One account frames the collapse around the group’s unconventional, high-end identity. It says the hotels drew attention for elaborate interiors and an adults-oriented reputation, but cites an unnamed source who said bookings had fallen after early interest: “The hotels were not cheap, and there were just not enough people wanting to push their boundaries.” The same report says guests already at the properties were asked to leave and new arrivals were turned away.

A second report places more emphasis on the operational and personal consequences. It says administrators from BDO LLP were appointed on October 27 and that both venues shut immediately. An anonymous Stadhampton employee said workers were sent home after a meeting and that the decision was sudden, although “we knew there had been some money problems in the last couple of weeks.”

Both accounts agree that all bookings were cancelled and that gift vouchers can no longer be used. They also indicate that customers who paid by card should contact their payment provider about a possible refund. The employee account adds that the timing was particularly difficult for workers approaching Christmas, while the other report suggests the shutdown had become foreseeable to some staff.

The group had previously entered administration in December 2024 before being acquired in a £6.5 million pre-pack deal, according to the second report. Neither account identifies a confirmed cause for the latest administration, leaving the immediate financial circumstances unclear.
