Delta Goodrem’s Strictly comeback hinges on rib injury recovery

Delta Goodrem will miss Strictly Come Dancing’s Icons Week after a rib injury, but she and Kai Widdrington have been granted a bye. The singer says she is focused on recovering in time for the following live show.

Delta Goodrem will sit out this weekend’s Strictly Come Dancing live show after a rib injury, interrupting a strong early run in the contest but not ending her participation.

The BBC’s statement, reported across the coverage, says doctors advised Goodrem to rest and that she and professional partner Kai Widdrington will receive a bye to the following week. The show said it hoped the pair would be able to dance again then.

Goodrem framed the absence as a painful setback after what had been a high point in the competition. “I’m absolutely gutted that a rib injury means I won’t be able to dance on Strictly this week,” she said, adding that missing the performance was “heartbreaking — especially after the high of Saturday night.”

The timing is particularly difficult because Goodrem and Widdrington had just topped the leaderboard with a Salsa that earned 33 points, including the first nine of the series from Motsi Mabuse. One report focused on the contrast between that momentum and the sudden medical pause, noting that the couple had been expected to perform during Icons Week.

Both accounts present the same immediate outcome: Goodrem will not face elimination this week, while the rest of the field performs without her. The difference lies mainly in emphasis. One centres the programme’s rules and the official assurance that she may return; the other highlights Goodrem’s disappointment after intensive rehearsals and her recent leaderboard success.

For Goodrem, the next step is recovery. “I’m going to focus on resting and recovering, and hopefully I’ll be back on that dancefloor very soon,” she said.
